Mental Health Advocate

Mental health has always played an important role in my life.   Understanding that we are all unique is crucial in being able to provide adequate services to those in need.  Feeling comfortable and safe when expressing your feelings can be difficult to obtain, and that's why I'm offering my ears, shoulders or whatever you need in a judgement free zone.

The urge to help others was identified at a young age, and I soon found myself with a notebook full of notes regarding what my loved ones enjoyed, disliked, triggered them, and ultimately made them happy.    I began Psych 101 classes in high school and completed my B.A. degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a concentration in Legal Studies at Roanoke College in 2009. Go Maroons!

My first job was at a private therapeutic day treatment school and helped me understand how much of a difference one can make in someone's life.  I transitioned from the school system to provide one-on-one adult mental health supports services and continued to expand my knowledge and skills by learning from humans of all walks of life.  Next, I managed a PsychoSocial Rehabilitation program where we educated adults on independent living skills, encouraged movement through music, and promoted self-sufficiency skills such as gardening. Then, I enjoyed being a therapeutic day treatment counselor at elementary schools throughout Southwest Virginia where I engaged students in social skills, coordinated summer programs and field trips in the community, and participated in Girls on the Run.  Most recently, I worked with a small business connecting clients with resources related to finances and obtaining meaningful jobs.

I continue to assist with linking members of the community with resources, positive networks, and a listening ear when needed.   If you need to talk about anything, I'm here for you!
